Report Summary

The global electric transporters market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 7.7% between 2018 to 2026. Electric transporters that covers a wide range of e-bikes and e-cars has been a budding trend as an effort to fight globally rising pollution and development of a sustainable future. However, we have limited our scope to electric bikes or e-bikes and small engine vehicles only in our research scope.

Electric transporters that encompass the bicycle segment have witnessed significant growth in sales in the past five years with over 40 million sold yearly from 2013 onwards. China has been the leading market for selling of these vehicles which was followed by Europe and Japan in the third place. The worldwide stock for the electric passenger cars crossed 3 million in 2017, which as an increase of around 57% from 2016. However, this was less compared to in 2016 and 2015. The battery electric transporters constitute of approximately two third of the global electric car fleet. Globally there were over 3 million electric passenger cars on the road in 2017 and the figure has increased significantly till July 2018. China accounted for 40% of these vehicles actively in use last year.

The industry’s development is boosted by regulatory supports such as the Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI), a multi government that was established in 2009 considered under Clean Energy Ministerial. The advent of EVI has been a significant development for the industry participants. It has facilitated the exchanges between the policy formulators working in the governments committed to supporting the EV development and a variety of partners within the industry. The EVI serves as a knowledge sharing platform on programmes and policies supporting the development of electric transporters market for the active industry participants and also for the ones hoping to enter the industry.

Segment Analysis

The global electric transporters industry is segmented based on product type, battery, voltage categories and regional markets. The product categories are further bifurcated into E-Scooter, E-Skateboard, E-Bicycle, E-Unicycle, E-Mopeds, Hoverboard, Onewheel, Segway PT. The battery segment is segmented into Nickel-metal Hybrid, Sealed Lead Acid and Lithium Ion. Voltage segment is further segmented into 24V, 36V, 48V categories.

Electric scooters are the most popular segment among the two wheeled motorized vehicles. These are similar to the gasoline powered products except that these are powered by battery power. Electric scooters offer efficiency gains and these local tailpipe emissions and are virtually silent, air and noise pollution reductions. These E-vehicles use batteries of different chemistries. The most common being nickel metal anhydride and lead acid. The low cost versions of these vehicles mostly use Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries. The premium segments are normally fitted with lithium ion or nickel metal hydride batteries. The largest country market i.e. China, majority of the bikes are fitted with lead acid batteries. In the European countries, estimates show that almost fifty percent of the bikes use nickel metal hydride and the rest lithium batteries, thus leaving almost no space for the other battery types for market capture.

Regional Analysis

Asia Pacific was the largest regional market in 2017. China dominates the regional as well as the worldwide e-bike market, with estimates of approximately 85 percent of the bikes sold global sales in the country. The country manufactures around 37 million new e-bikes every year and it is expected to increase in the near future. However, production might experience slower growth as several European countries have been actively participating in the industry. Demand for these products in Europe has grown significantly in the recant years. The Association of the European Two-Wheeler Parts and Accessories’ Industries reported that sale of these products in the region has increased between 19% to 76% from 2006 to 2017.
